Apple Crisp

This easy recipe will bring back fond chilly autumn memories of simpler times. Using whole wheat flour and oatmeal, this classic dessert receives a small nutritional upgrade. A perfect treat after dinner with family or friends.
INGREDIENTS
4 lbs apples, cored and sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg, grated or ground
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup canola oil
3 Tablespoons milk or nondairy milk alternative such as soy, coconut, or almond
1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
¼ teaspoon salt
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat large baking dish with canola oil spray.
2. Combine apples, brown sugar and spices in a baking dish.
3. Combine all the other ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
4. Spread oat mixture evenly over apples.
5. Bake until apples are bubbly and topping is brown and crispy, about 45 minutes.
