Chocolate Banana Shake

serves 4

Toeing the line between healthy snack and dessert, this chocolate banana shake will become your favorite way to sneak more fruit into your day. Looks and tastes like a milkshake, but using frozen bananas significantly lowers the fat while adding vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting antioxidants. Share the shake if you can resist eating it all at once.

3 large, ripe bananas (frozen, if possible)

4 cups unsweetened nondairy milk such as coconut, almond, rice, or soy

½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

1 tsp cinnamon

honey, to taste (try it before adding honey to see if it’s sweet enough)

2 or 3 handfuls of ice cubes (if using fresh bananas)

  1. Combine all ingredients in a strong blender.
  2. Blend until smooth; thin with water to reach desired consistency.
